Human //
I held back as much as possible, so let's call it a day here.
Basic Information // Tohno, Shiki
Full Name: Nanaya Shiki.
Alias: Tohno Shiki.
Age: 18.
Gender: Male.
Alignment: Chaotic Good.
Personality //
As long as it has a shape, everything will vanish someday.
To start off with, Shiki isn't what one would call a normal guy in school. Instead, Shiki can be seen as a bit socially awkward due to his poor social skills at times, and can be accredited to the average glasses wearing nerd. Shiki is mainly reserved and likes to deal with things himself and not delve too much into his personal story with others, and appears to get good grades in school. His reservation is not the reason his friend count is low, however. The reason he has so few friends is due to the fact that nobody every really came up to him willing to be friends. The only ones who did were Inui Arihiko, his "best friend", and the girl who has a crush on him, Satsuki Yumizuka. From Arihiko's account, Shiki appears to give off this aura that pushes people away, something that tells 'ordinary' people to take a hike. From appearances alone, one would see Shiki as a sickly, anemic student who they just do not want to deal with. In actuality, they are repelled due to the fact that Shiki understands a concept that they will never truly understand. That, is the concept of death itself.
The reason Arihiko is not repelled by this, however, is that the male witnessed his own grandmother's tragic death, and because the two of them have witnessed and experienced death they are attracted to one another. Shiki has tried his hardest to distance himself from others because he knows what they do not know, which includes the people that care a lot about him. Shiki feels that he should distance himself away from the ones that he loves or vice versa, because he doesn't feel they are ready to accept him for who he truly is and the special ability he has been gifted. If they do accept this, and truly love him for who he is, Shiki will reciprocate the feelings to the best of his abilities. However, he usually fails at this, unless the person is just as reclusive as Shiki himself. Due to seeing 'death' in the way he does, Shiki values life more than any other human being. Shiki is not afraid of dying, so that is not the reason he values it. Obviously he doesn't want to die, but Shiki knows that life is worth valuing, and tries to live it to the fullest every chance he gets.
Due to seeing the lines, Shiki believes that life is fragile, and can be destroyed rather easily. Shiki could easily kill anything that he wished with his ability, and it is this fact that horrifies him inside. Yet, there are two sides to every coin. Shiki also believes that anything that can be broken so easy, something that is so fragile, is priceless and irreplaceable. Shiki cherishes every single second of his own life and the lives of others because of these thoughts and experiences, and even if life is spent in depression as opposed to happiness, it is still life being spent. Shiki believes that, in living life itself, you should be able to find happiness and reward in that alone. Shiki is extremely optimistic and helpful to others, and this would be the case even if he wasn't used to shoving his nose and barging into other people's matters and affairs. Shiki is the kind of guy that can't say no. If you can look past Shiki's darker aura, he is a fun-loving, funny, sweet, kind, caring man who has a sarcastic sense of humor at times and tries to cling to the 'normal' in life.
Shiki may not be a huge smarty like his glasses hint toward, but that doesn't mean he's stupid. He's intelligent, if no super genius, responsible, and dutiful at that. If you ask Shiki for advice, and can get back his wisecracks here and there, you'll get what you're looking for; an answer. Shiki has some snark, a smile, and a good attitude toward any type of oddity he faces, though that doesn't stop him from trying to cling to normal human logic as much as he possibly can. Any situation that involves the taking of someone else's life or needless death, Shiki is 100% against and will do whatever it takes so that someone doesn't die needlessly. Shiki believes that any kind of person who tries to take life needlessly without valuing the life that they are taking is nothing short of a sadistic, animalistic monster that deserves to die and be wiped from the face of the planet themselves. As ironic as it is, however, deep down Shiki is that very monster in a way that he hates, and this might be the reason why he hates it in the first place.
Deep down, due to his Nanaya blood, Shiki has the instincts of a pure born killer. Usually this instincts are kept in check with Shiki, though that doesn't stop them from arising when he is faced with something that is not of this world. This instinct finds no logic, finds no rhyme or reason in killing. He just kills because that is what he believes he is; nothing more than a cold, dark, murderous killer. When it comes to Shiki's Nanaya side, killing could be the same as drinking liquids to live. At times, when Shiki is under the Nanaya influence, he will get utterly excited over the act of killing to the point where he will find sexual pleasure out of it. Shiki does not consider this side of him his own personality, referring to his Nanaya side as 'him' or 'it' on numerous occasions. However, the two are alike in many ways. He still retains a bit of his Nanaya side in his normal personality, especially when he is faced with an opponent trying to kill him. At the same time, his Nanaya side also keeps a bit of his own personality in it, at times snapping out sarcastic remarks and his intent to kill the other person.
In a sense, if Tohno Shiki could be considered a killer, Nanaya would be considered a murderer. His Nanaya blood wonders why people are attached to things that you can't physically feel, that you can't physically experience, whereas Tohno understands these inanimate feelings and objects that you can't touch or feel yourself and keeps himself attached to them. Nanaya does not feel that death is that big of a deal. Instead, Nanaya feels death is natural and all he is doing is speeding up an inevitable process. Nanaya could consider himself a 'Grim Reaper' of sorts, that is only stopping people from delaying the inevitable. As far as Tohno is concerned, however, his 'Nanaya' life died the day that Tohno SHIKI killed him and he began to see the lines. SHIKI took Shiki's right to live that life away in the same way that Shiki took SHIKI's right to live as a Tohno when he killed him. Overall, Shiki is himself and he knows who he is, meaning he has a strong sense of self-awareness. Even if he can't remember everyone he has met, Shiki treasures those that are close to him and those that he will end up making close to him. When it comes time for Shiki to die, that is all that matters to him.

Specialized Info //
Mystic Eyes: Shiki has a very unique and special ability. By experiencing death once, his mind and soul became linked with Akasha, the Spiral of Origin that records all phenomena in existence, whether it be past, present or future. Since Shiki was already born with innate psychic abilities, this opened up a channel within Shiki's brain, allowing to see "death" in the form of lines and points. This ability is called the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception ("Chokushi no Magan"). By tracing along the lines with a sharp enough object, anything, whether it be a bed, a chair, human flesh, can be cut apart as easily as wet tissue paper. By piercing the point of an object, that object will cease to exist, thereby "stopping" it, and as a consequence of no longer existng, bringing it to "death". In other words, what Shiki sees is the predetermined "death" of an object. As long as it exists, no matter who or what it is, Shiki can "kill" it by tracing the lines or piercing the points. Depending on the user's level of ability, it may even be possible to "kill" concepts and phenomena, although this Shiki hasn't quite reached such level yet.
This ability also ignores any and all defenses, as well as regenerative ability. No kind of healing or regeneration, whether it be natural healing, supernatural healing, or even spatial manipulation can mend something cut by the user. The only known cases of someone "healing" a wound inflicted by this ability are: Arcueid Brunestud, who had to reconfigure her entire conceptual structure (Tsukihime), and Araya Souren, who had become a semi-conceptual existence (Kara no Kyoukai).
It is, however, possible to be immune to this ability. Shiki can only kill beings his mind is can comprehend and considers killable. Other humans, animals, plants, non-living things like rocks and air, and even things that are already dead. Everything has the same "root", and thus have similar concepts of death. As long as the origin can be traced to the Earth, no matter what it is, Shiki will have the subconscious knowledge necessary for him to comprehend its end. This most likely also applies to being not necessarily from earth, but have fundamental similarities to beings to them. For example, on the Island, there are various beings who, while human, aren't from the same planet as Shiki is. Shiki can probably see the lines of these beings, as they have few fundamental differences from their earthly counterparts.
Conversely, Shiki cannot see the death of things that don't have a concept of death that he can understand. The best example of this is ORT, the ultimate being from the planet Mercury. The reason Shiki cannot kill ORT isn't because it's from another planet, but because its existence is far too removed from his own. His mind cannot comprehend ORT's existence, and therefore cannot comprehend its death. It's just simply too foreign to understand. It doesn't help that ORT has a completely different concept of death from anything on earth (as in, it can't be killed by the earth's standards. Even if you manage to destroy the body, that still wouldn't constitute as death for ORT). Although the term "Gaian concept of death" is frequently thrown around, this is never actually mentioned in any canon source, and it's actually something fanon came up with to explain why he can't kill certain beings. Theoretically, there shouldn't be anything to stop him from killing a rock from the planet Mercury or something.
As a side note, the eyes are always active, but as long as Shiki has his glasses on, he can't see the lines. While normally, his eyes are black, when he consciously uses his eyes, they turn a bright shade of blue.

Abilities //
Name:[/b] Sixth Sense
Rank:[/b] N/A
Element:[/b] N/A
Description:[/b] The bloodline trait of the Nanaya that allows Shiki to sense supernatural threats. Whenever he's near a supernatural entity, such as a vampire or demonic hybrid, his instincts will immediately alert him to its presence. The more powerful the entity, the stronger the reaction. The more inhuman it is, the more hostile Shiki's subconscious will be, to the point of demanding him to remove the threat immediately. He's mostly learned to tune it out due to his constant contact with supernatural phenomena, but it's still there.
Name:[/b] Danger Instinct
Rank:[/b] N/A
Element:[/b] N/A
Description:[/b] Shiki's ability to 'feel' danger towards his person. Whenever his life is threatened in any way, Shiki will subconsciously understand this and, depending on the level of the threat, automatically react accordingly. At his particular level, his instinct is said to border on precognition, and assassination techniques are all but useless against him.
Name:[/b] Sensa (Flash Sheath)
Rank:[/b] C
Element:[/b] N/A
Description:[/b] One of the signature techniques of the Nanaya clan, 'Sensa' refers to the user's ability to attack faster than the eye can track. To the would-be observer, the user's arm movements would be so fast that at best, it would look like nothing more than a series of blurs, if even that. Shiki's signature technique, the Seventeen-Piece Dissection is performed using this technique, allowing Shiki to slice an enemy apart into seventeen pieces within an instant.
Name:[/b] Sensou (Flash Dash)
Rank:[/b] C
Element:[/b] N/A
Description:[/b] One of the signature techniques of the Nanaya clan, 'Sensou' refers to the user's ability to move faster than the eye can track. To the would-be observer, the use of this technique would cause the user to completely disappear from view. This ability can also be used to scale walls and ceilings. Though he was only able to use this as a trump card originally, by this point, Shiki is able to perform this technique at will (though only when he's in the right psychological state).
Name:[/b] Empathy
Rank:[/b] N/A
Element:[/b] N/A
Description:[/b] On very rare occasions, Shiki can connect with certain people and see what they see, feel what they feel, and even experience their emotional states. However, this is incredibly rare, and Shiki must have a pre-established connection with that person. He has no control over when this occurs, and it seems to only happen when he's sleeping. This is due to an "open channel" in Shiki's brain that's basically responsible for his other psychic abilities.
Name:[/b] Jougan (Pure Eyes)
Rank:[/b] B
Element:[/b] N/A
Description:[/b] Shiki's original psychic ability that he was born with, Jougan are a form of clairvoyance that allows the user to see that which cannot be seen, a power that many saints in human history have had. Each individual's Jougan is unique, and all Jougan users see something different. Shiki's particular Jougan allows him to be able to see that which 'shouldn't' be seen. For example, in Kohaku's scenario in Tsukihime, he was able to 'see' Akiha's power in the form of red hair, something even Akiha herself couldn't see, allowing him to cut it apart before it could do much damage to him. This ability likely extends to most other forms of invisible psychic abilities. Shiki still has this ability in addition to his Death Perception, although it's implied that he is able to turn this ability on and off at will.
Name:[/b] Inversion Impulse
Rank:[/b] N/A
Element:[/b] N/A
Description:[/b] Ordinarily a trait in which demon hybrids lose their wills to their demonic blood, in this case, 'Inversion Impulse' refers simply to an unnatural change in the subject's personality. In Shiki's case, during times of extreme stress, fear or anger (mainly when his life is in danger), his personality 'inverts', turning him into a cold and efficient killer. This is accomplished by his brain shutting down his emotions and reactions to pain, traits that would normally hinder his ability to kill. In a way, it functions as a defense mechanism that allows for Shiki to deal with the situations at hand.
In its most extreme form, Shiki becomes a completely bloodthirsty killer, pulled into a near-intoxicated need to kill any and all things in his immediate perception (limited mainly to non-humans). This form has mostly disappeared after the events of Tsukihime. Another, milder form of inversion seems to exist, however. Often, when he's in a serious fight, Shiki's personality will undergo a sudden shift, where he obtains a higher level of focus and seriousness than usual while exuding an overwhelming 'killing intent'. When like this, his eyes will glow constantly blue, signifying that he is willingly using his eyes to kill. In contrast to a 'true' inversion, however, Shiki has complete control in this state and can hold himself back when necessary. [/size]
